School News for the Week of January 11, 2016

The students of Sunset Middle are known for the exceptional achievements and have shown that academics is their top priority. Because of their effort, the school performance score of Sunset Middle has increased by 3.5 points. Keep up the hard work!
Students at Sunset Middle School who earned their Accelerated Reader goal for the 3rd six weeks were rewarded with a free meal from Pizza Hut or Raising Canes; the students who doubled their goal earned the meal and a free jean day. The following students tripled their AR goal and received the aforementioned rewards as well as a party sponsored by the school’s library facilitator Mrs. Erica LaFountaine-Meche.
Kylie Guidry, Sierra Husbands, Jonathan Matt, Hailey Chaisson, Madison Flugence, Kyla Landreaux, Brenda Venable, Andre Dural, Marissa Howard, Jonathan Fontenot, Laine Gautreaux, Taylor Miller, Delane Allen, Lane Bergeron, Kendal Briscoe, Alyssa Howard, Demarcus Green, Joey Venable, and Kenan Roberts
But there is one group of students who far exceeded what was expected of them. Mrs. Julia Quebedeaux’s 5th grade students earned 463.8 AR points with one student, Alexis Zimmer, earning 102.9 AR points. Keep up the good work Sunset Middle!
The Sunset Middle School basketball team is holding its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. tournament Thursday, January 14th through Sunday, January 17th. They opened the tournament with a win by the girls over J.S. Clark. Good job, Lady Panthers and Coach Marcie Richard!
The SMS Beta Club, under the leadership of Ms. Deidra Zachary and Mrs. Elizabeth Gradnigo, is selling World’s Finest Chocolate to help with costs associated with attending the National Convention. Please call the school at 662-3194 if you are interested in purchasing.
The school’s health center sponsored by Southwest Primary Healthcare is up and running! It is open Tuesdays and Fridays 8-12 noon.
